"Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today.”
- Jordan Peterson

John was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, but has lived in Oregon for more than 30 years. After graduating from the University of Oregon, he worked in the insurance industry for a few years before joining Kernutt Stokes, the only accounting firm for which he’s ever worked. For John, it’s home and a professional environment where he’s surrounded by talented staff, colleagues, and partners.

John enjoys working closely with his clients, helping them solve all sorts of financial – and often times non-financial – problems, and help them build comprehensive financial plans for themselves and their families. He knows that tax rules can be challenging, complex, and even annoying to clients. John strives to help his clients understand the tax laws that pertain to them, or, more importantly, take the burden of thinking about their taxes away so they can focus on what’s important to them. A good communicator and problem solver, John makes challenging concepts clearer and easier to understand. In addition, John is also heavily involved in the firm’s marketing and business development.

John and his wife Marina have four kids between them. They enjoy working on their 11-acre property which they find to be more of a hobby than work. They also enjoy traveling, motorcycling, and being outdoors.
