Richard D. Nellis, CPA

Rich is a Director for Kernutt Stokes. He has a well-developed expertise in tax compliance and consulting, including detailed tax research, review of tax returns and client consulting projects. He serves a variety of clients, but primarily focuses on high net worth individuals and businesses in the manufacturing, construction and estate and trust clients.

In addition to his client service work, Rich provides guidance and leadership to Kernutt Stokes associates. He reviews tax returns prepared by the Kernutt Stokes tax department, and is in charge of the firm’s tax preparation software administration. Rich also serves as an instructor for the Kernutt Stokes continuing professional education classes. He lectures on various topics including partnership and LLC issues, S-corporation issues, legislative tax updates and college savings strategies.

Rich grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, and graduated from UC Santa Barbara. He started his career in government accounting; first for the Defense Contract Audit Agency, then for the IRS as a revenue agent. Rich then transitioned into the public sector, working for Kohnen, Larson, MacDonald, Wright & Company, PC for five years until they merged with Kernutt Stokes in 1998. Rich resides in Eugene with his wife, Julie. In his free time, Rich enjoys camping, backpacking, and playing cards & board games.
