L. M. Shelly Sorem, CPA

Shelly joined the Kernutt Stokes team in 2018 through the firm’s acquisition of Spectrum CPA Group, LLP. She has spent the entirety of her nearly three-decade career with Spectrum and its predecessors. Shelly currently serves as a partner, and leads the firm’s Corvallis office. She specializes in serving clients in the timber and Christmas tree, agriculture, professional services, and fishing industries. In addition to providing traditional accounting services, Shelly works with clients on estate and succession planning, entity structure, and ownership transition.

Shelly’s teammates laud her for her strength, ambition, honesty, and fun. Her overarching goal when providing client services is to create rewarding and long-lasting relationships by regularly exceeding expectations. As a child, Shelly worked with her parents in a small family business sparked her interest in accounting as a career. Shelly believes that her listening skills and commitment to her clients are the key factors in her career success.

Originally from the Midwest, Shelly moved to Oregon in 1971. She has two sons and one daughter-in-law, all of whom live in Portland. Shelly currently resides in Albany, which is, in her opinion, the perfect location—it is within a one-hour drive of the big city, the ocean, and the mountains. Outside of the office, Shelly can often be found golfing, boating, playing cards, or reading a good book in a sun-warmed deck chair.
